Welcome to the Knoxville
Symphony Orchestras 2001-2002 season, featuring three
distinct themes that I have chosen to focus on.
THE GREAT CONCERTOS.
I have tried to place many of the worlds most beloved
concertos in one season, played by guest artists who I consider
to be among the superstars of our time. As always, you will
also be introduced to superstars of the future.
THE GREAT AMERICAN
VERNACULAR. This season features an overview of seven works
that encompass the musical visions of American composers throughout
the last century, from Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael to John
Adams.
THE GREAT ROMANTIC
MASTERWORKS. The KSO has developed a reputation for its
playing of the great 19th century masterpieces. This season,
I will bring you new romantic works from Smetana, Wagner and
Strauss, while revisiting some others that this wonderful orchestra
have made their own.
I am truly excited
about everything the 2001-2002 season has to offer, and I am
sure you will enjoy all of these great performances by your
Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. On behalf of all of our talented
musicians and staff, thank you for your continuing patronage
and support.
Best wishes,
Kirk Trevor
Music Director & Conductor
